Brent Lyons-Lee was an apology at the Chamber of Commerce forum. This was the 90 second speech he had prepared

On 3 October 2017, Geelong Chamber of Commerce organised a Candidate Forum at Rydges Geelong where each candidate was given 90 seconds to present his or her response to a number of questions and also summarise their policies and priorities. In this ‘Not in 90 seconds’ series we present notes and draft speeches that candidates had prepared but weren’t able to express within the timespan of 1:30 minutes.

By Brent Lyons-Lee, candidate for Kardinia Ward

I’ve been involved in a number of social enterprise start-ups and really understood the importance of creating employment years ago when I ran a free lunch program regularly attended by Big Issue vendors. They didn’t make a fortune, but to pull on a uniform in the morning, have colleagues and engage with loyal customers made a world of difference in their lives. It’s been a privilege to work on the GROW (Geelong Region Opportunities for Work) project to promote employment as the pathway out of poverty through placed based impact investment and strategic social procurement. GROW gives our G21 region SME’s great opportunities for expansion if they are willing to intentionally introduce social outcomes to their business planning. If GROW succeeds, we will have a truly unique business environment that will attract the brightest entrepreneurs. If elected to Council, I look forward to working with the Chamber to support our local businesses to create jobs for now and for our future.
